Kilcullen to visit Normandy twin next year

The then Mayor of Kildare, Cllr Billy Hillis, and then Mayor of St Contest Stephanie Yon Courtin, signing the twinning agreement in Kilcullen last March.
The Kilcullen twinning programme with St Contest in Normandy will see a Kilcullen group head to France in April, writes Brian Byrne.

The twinning was inaugurated last March when a delegation from the French town came to Ireland and among other events took part in the Kilcullen St Patrick's Day Parade.

Following the European elections in May, the mayor of St Contest, Stephanie Yon Courtin was elected to the European Parliament, and an interim mayor was appointed. Arrangements for a proposed Kilcullen visit to St Contest this autumn were put on hold.

But the chair of the Kilcullen Twinning Group, Nessa Dunlea, said recently that arrangements will be back on track for when local elections in St Contest are completed in March of 2020..

She said she hopes that there will be ongoing connections between schools in the two towns in the meantime.
